In the Studio: Grace & Time

Today I'm excited to share a special canvas painting for my sponsor and friend, Jenna from "Day of Knight"!

She asked to to create this painting to remind her of the two words she has chosen to focus on this year: grace & time. She chose a deer to represent grace and a clock to represent time...

So for this painting I wanted a feminine look (aka not a "hunting" deer" or a "bling" clock- ha!) and for the focus to be on what the images represent. I went with an Anthropologie-vintage-modern-textural feel (how's that for a style?! ha!) I painted a deer silhouette with a little "cameo" necklace that is actually a clock.

After an initial sketch right on the canvas, I realized that I wanted the deer silhouette to be framed and on a brightly colored "wallpaper". This fabric was the first to come to mind and I salvaged every last bit of it from my sewing box!  After the fabric was applied, I choose a few hymns out of a vintage hymnal and collaged them to be the background of the frame. Each hymn was chosen specifically because they focused on submitting to God and obedience...along with His might to do it through us! Then I chose a "coral" color for a vintage style frame...

I added a banner with the words "Grace & Time" for a pretty and extra visual reminder...

I hope that Jenna loves her new painting and that it is a beautiful reminder for her all year!
