I am BEYOND EXCITED to share this "Do-It-Yourself" project with you today! I think this is a fun way to change up some worn out items in your closet!
You'll need: an old cartigan sweater, a coordinating fabric, scissors, a needle/embroidery floss, and a sewing machine.
1. I started by laying the fabric over my cartigan and cutting out a rectangle that would be double the size I wanted for my ruffles....like this:
2. Then I cut that rectangle of fabric in half.
3. Now I have two equal strips of fabric for either side of my buttons!
4. Next, fold one of your fabric strips in half so that the back of the fabric is on the outside.
(it's sort of like a fabric tube)
6. Trim around the edges and turn it right side out.
7. Next turn in the open end and stitch across the last edge.
9. Do the same thing with your other fabric strip.
10. Iron them both and they should look like this....
10. Next, use a needle and some embroidery floss to stitch up the side of your fabric strip. (you can make the stitches pretty big.)
12. Once the ruffle looks about how you like it, lay it where you want it on your sweater and pin it.
13. Sew along the side of your embroidery floss stitching with your sewing machine.
14. Then, cut the embroidery floss and pull it out of the fabric!
15. Now you should have a nice little ruffle! Do the same thing for the other side...
16. Stitch up the side..
17. Pull to make the ruffle, pin your fabric to the sweater, sew along side your stitching, then cut and pull out the embroidery floss!
and there it is!!! You're super cute new Ruffled Cartigan Re-mix!!!
What do you think?!? Do you like it? Are you going to try it? If you do, we'd love to see pictures. Please let me know if you have any questions or if the instructions weren't clear!
happy friday!
