I’m so excited to be part of Molly’s Blog party. I love her work and can’t wait to see what goodies she puts in her new etsy shop! When she contacted me about doing a guest post I thought a DIY would be perfect for her cute site…so here goes:
Every since I found out I was pregnant I’ve been designing cute baby clothes in my head. I had visions of ruffles, fabric flowers and all-things-girly…then, of course, I found out I’m having a boy. So after reluctantly putting my bedazzler away I realized that making clothes for little boys can be just as enjoyable; less frilly but still fun! Adding embellishments to a onsie is a quick and easy way to make a unique outfit for a baby boy.
Onsie DIY #1
You need a plain onsie. I bought a whole pack of white ones for lots of fun projects. I recommend washing them first, because they’re usually 100% cotton.
Draw a little mustache (I did it freehand) on a piece of black felt and cut it out. I used felt to give the stache a fuzzy feel but later thought that a faux fur material would have been even cuter. Can you picture that? ha!
Pin the mustache onto the onsie. I reinforced it on the back with interfacing, so the material wouldn’t pucker.
Sew the mustache to the onsie with black thread. I wanted to do it with the sewing machine, but the onsie is so small that I couldn’t really move it around without messing up…so I did it by hand. My stiches are always messy, but I wanted to show what the backed looked like after I sewed the felt to the onsie.
And ta da-that’s it! Isn’t it cute?! Every time I look at it I laugh. Can’t wait to see a cute little baby wearing this. :)
Onsie DIY #2
Navy and grey onsie + old t-shirt I was going to throw away = cute custom little boy onsie.
Cut out “I (heart) DAD” from the old shirt and pin it to the onsie. Reinforce the letters with interfacing on the inside of the outfit.
Stitch the letters to the onsie. I used orange thread for a little bit of color pop and contrast!
Thanks Lyndsay! These are SO darling! I can't wait to see your little one wearing them!
